What Instagram does brilliantly
Proof, personality, and discovery. Keep posting; it is the top of your funnel and the reason strangers find you at all.
What it cannot do
Answer at 2am, show live availability, take a booking, rank on Google when someone searches "physio near me", or survive an algorithm change. Your reach there is borrowed; a 30 percent drop in the feed is a 30 percent drop in your business if IG is all you have.
The minimum that works
One fast page: what you do, real prices, a booking action, and WhatsApp one tap away, linked in bio. From RM2,500 built properly. The point is not having a website; it is having somewhere that converts the attention Instagram creates.
The search problem nobody mentions
Instagram does not appear when someone types "physio Petaling Jaya" into Google, and it does not appear when someone asks ChatGPT to recommend a clinic near them. Both of those are now real ways Malaysians find a business, and both need a page that exists outside the app. A profile is invisible to the two fastest-growing discovery channels in the country.
What you are actually renting
On Instagram you rent the audience, the reach and the rules. Reach can halve without warning, an account can be restricted by mistake, and appeals go to a form rather than a person. None of that is a reason to leave Instagram. It is a reason not to let it be the only place a customer can reach you.
The DM tax
If your prices only exist in DMs, every enquiry costs you a reply before it can become money. Multiply that by the enquiries you get in a week and you have a part-time job you did not apply for. Publishing prices on a page does not lose you negotiating room, it filters out the people who were never going to buy and gets you the ones who already decided.
Common follow-up questions
Can I just use Linktree instead of a website?
Linktree solves the one-link problem, not the capture problem. It has no prices, no booking, no answers, and it does not rank on Google. It is a fine signpost pointing at somewhere. It is a bad destination.
My customers all find me on Instagram anyway. Why pay for a page?
The customers you know about found you on Instagram. The ones who searched, found nothing, and went to a competitor do not appear in your DMs, so they never enter your reasoning. That is the entire cost, and it is invisible by design.
How many pages do I actually need to start?
One page will work if it carries what you do, real prices, proof, and a booking or WhatsApp action within one tap. Five pages is the point where you can also rank for individual services rather than just your business name.
Will a website stop me needing to post?
No, and it should not. Instagram stays the top of the funnel. The site is where the attention it creates turns into a booking instead of an unanswered DM.
